The Gift
Gloria Watts

It came by post,
sat on the hall carpet,
has sat, for more than an hour.

Wrapped in brown paper
with a pink ribbon bow
with the words –
‘To a loved one.’

How did I resist;
with fingers itching
with heart racing,
I declined – had too.

Or once again,
be beguiled by
words, tender words
to melt my heart.

And so it lay, and
lay, until the fine
pink ribbon bow
faded, the years passed.

It came by post,
sits on the hall carpet,
has sat, long forgotten, like
the love I once knew.

Gloria Watts is a first time player in my dare and gave me mo bio or link, but I loved this poem. All of the entries for this dare were excellent and I couldn't pick honorable mentions. From a humors poem about regifting and mysterious story about a music box to an enchanting poem to a toast of memories and a heartfelt poem about a lost child. Watch for the next dare.

To Gloria, feel free to post a bio or link to your website in the comments below. Cheers,
